plus it is amazing that what we bought was picked either yesterday or this morning.
talk about vine ripened! nothing flew in from california or wherever else it comes from in the grocery stores! i've noticed even the organic bananas at central market are green. :(
that would be shelf ripening my friends. not the same.
anyway, we finally made it to one today with our dear friend sarah. it was wonderful. and whats better than grocery shopping outside!? i hate freezing grocery stores.
i hope to someday have my own garden and chickens to sell things i grow!
we couldn't get everything we normally get but here's what we came home with:

3 bell peppers, 2 summer squash, 1 zucchini, green beans,
okra, pecans, half dozen eggs (love all the different colors!),
1 cucumber, jar of cultured sauerkraut, and fresh humus!

ReplyDeleteyeah, that photo is really cute! i'm going every saturday (trying different ones) unless i am busy!
ReplyDeleteSo that's it, you and my friend Diana are destined to be friends. One of the last times I came to ATX to visit, we went to Johnson's Backyard Garden. http://www.jbgorganic.com/
ReplyDeleteHave you heard of them? They have a farm a bit outside town and distribute boxes in a co-opish design. I'm pretty sure they have a booth at the market as well. Anyways, you can go workshare for them to help put together the boxes and you get one as payment. Organic, seasonal, homegrown veggies farm to table. Next time you go to the market maybe you'll see them.
